Congo’s Oil Tanker Explosion Toll Reaches 230

D. R. Congo, July 04 — At least 230 people were killed when oil filled tanker overturned and exploded in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It sparked fire in the Sange village. Several buildings, including cinama hall, caught fire and people in huge numbers got trapped by the blaze.

Bodies in hundreds were littered across the streets and many of it were burned beyond recognition. Red Cross operators carried the charred dead bodies from the spot and burried them in two mass graves few miles away.

United Nations’ also joined in the rescue operation and helped by airlifting injured people to hospital. Congo Army is also working as a rescue team.

The explosion took place on July 2 evening and the reason of the blast is still unconvinced. Locals said the truck was stopped when the road appeared to crumble. This caused the spilling tanker overturn and explode.
